LAKE JAMES, NC
- Come visit us at Mike & Jill's new home overlooking beautiful
Lake James! With views of the lake off the front porch and the
mountains beyond, they are regularly enjoying the views from their
rocking chairs.

Upon visiting their
property
you will notice the prime building spot
- on top of a knoll with views
overlooking Lake James to the south. A great place for a covered
timber framed front porch to enjoy the panoramic views from the shade. Behind the
house to the north, Linville Mountain rises
above the valley below,
all of which is national forest land. The home is
designed just right so
views of both the lake and mountains can
be enjoyed – particularly from the great room.

To accomplish this,
the great room is designed at the end of
the house with three walls of windows open to the views. The wall
height was raised to 10’ to maximize glass in the large
24’x 22’ room with soaring cathedral ceilings. All this glass
will certainly bring the outdoors inside!

LAKE JAMES, NC
- - Chris and Joe's house is progressing
quickly. The outside siding and roofing is installed and the
rough trades are complete. The hanging of sheetrock on the
interior walls will begin shortly.
When you approach their house in
the woods, down a long gravel driveway, you are greeted by a large
timber posts supported on substantial stone columns. This timber
frame structure includes a hefty scissors truss and roof over the
front porch. The mixture of natural materials blends their home
into the landscape – vertical and horizontal cedar siding, cedar
shingles and stone. The
large flagstone front patio underneath a high timber framed roof
provides a natural setting to sit out front enjoying the shade
while awaiting visitors.
Upon entering through the
oversized wooden front door, you are captured by the long views of
the woods through the large glass wall beyond the greatroom. The
vertical posts framing and supporting these windows help to bring
the outdoors inside by mimicking the trees beyond.
The house was designed with the
outdoors in mind. All the day-to-day main living areas (great
room, dining, kitchen, screen porch) are all on the end of the
house closest the lake and the dock. When sitting at the dining
area table you can enjoy long water views and quick access to the
outdoors. As you move towards the adjacent kitchen you are drawn
outside to the screen porch through double swinging French doors
that can be left open for easy access.
HICKORY, NC - Jacqueline and
Lee's retreat home on Lake Hickory is progressing quickly.
With
open living on the first floor and bedrooms on the second floor,
their custom home design compacts a lot into a small footprint -
three bedrooms, 3.5 baths. The steep 12/12 pitched roof
affords room for a creative loft above the bedrooms. A great
place for the kids to play and sleep! Windows are
strategically placed throughout the design to bring in more than
just light - they capture lake views while obstructing views of
neighboring houses. Later this spring they will be
enjoying their lakeside setting from their rear deck! View

WEDDINGTON, NC - Karen and
Rodney's timber framed great room has transformed their new custom
house design into a home. Although still under construction,
you can appreciate the fine craftsmanship of our timber trusses.
As you enter the front door, you are greeted overhead by 18' wide
timber trusses running the length of the entry and greatroom - the
core
of the home. The curved timber braces adorning each post add
both strength and beauty to the structure. At the far end of
the great room, a timber truss outlines the high arching windows
which overlook a wooded setting - a sight to behold.
On
the ceiling, soaring high above, the white pine tongue and groove
boards blend naturally with the timber trusses and create a very
relaxing and aesthetically appealing environment. One the
homeowners will enjoy for years to come as they entertain friends
and family.
MOORESVILLE, NC
- Kisten and West have moved into this eye catching 4800sf Craftsman styled home. Many
unique features are utilized to take advantage of the Lake Norman
waterfront views.
Some of the timbered features can be
appreciated before even entering the home. From the streetside
you are immediately greeted with a taste of what's inside. A
beautiful Douglas Fir timbered front porch supported by a arched
king post truss. Other natural materials include a stone
foundation, cedar clapboard siding, and cedar shingles. The high
profile asphalt roof shingles brings it all together by blending
naturally with the moss colored siding and wooded setting.
As you enter the home, selectively placed
arched timber corner braces and an attractive hammer beam truss
frame your view of the lake through the great room and a large
wall of windows.
Outdoor living areas also assist in
maximizing their water views. These include 2 timber framed
screen porches, a covered deck, an open deck, an elevated porch
and a covered patio. With all these outdoor living areas,
the homeowners can certainly enjoy the beauty of their Timberpeg
home inside and out all year-round!
DENVER, NC - The Phillips new home on beautiful Lake Norman in Westport Peninsula enjoys expansive views across
the lake. The 4200sf 4b/5b custom designed mountain/craftsman style home is
constructed with elegant Douglas Fir timbers. As you approach the home, you get to
experience the warmth of timber on the exterior with the timbered king post truss
over the front porch. Upon entering, you are quickly amazed by the cathedral great
room and ornate timbers. As you pass through the large 20' x 20' great room and enter the deck, you not
only get to enjoy the view overlooking the lake, but high overhead is a large timbered
truss. These are just a few of the many unique features that make a Timberpeg home
elegant, natural and warm.
DAVIDSON, NC - The Yarborough's second Timberpeg home is complete. This 3000sf Low
Country Design will provide the extra space they need including a large welcoming front porch overlooking the nearby street. The fine finish details
on the inside of this 4b/3b home are incredible! And its these details
that really highlight the natural warmth of a Timberpeg.
As you enter
the Yarboroughs home, the exterior (and interior) antique doors catch your
eye. To compliment this antiquity, wide plank antique heart pine floors are
installed. An interesting conversation piece is that these floors were reclaimed
from timbers in an old downtown Charlotte warehouse where the new arena will soon be
built. Since the heart pine is such a rare and beautiful material, they elected to
have custom built-in wall shelves installed in the great room. To blend rooms, heart pine kitchen cabinets were built onsite and another
natural material, marble, was chosen as the counter top. Where heart pine floors
arent used, several variations of natural earth-toned tile is installed.
The blending of stone
and timbers is an attractive technique the Yarborough's wanted to incorporate in the
fireplace. The inspiration came from a magazine photograph. The ledgestone
married with the eastern white pine timbers really adds character to the great room.
One of the most attractive features is the handmade antique heart pine stair
rail and banisters with their copper inserts. According to 25-year carpenter Tommy
Dillard in his own modest way said, I believe they are the most beautiful railings
Ive ever built. All this custom detailing only enhances the natural
beauty of a Timberpeg - one the Yarboroughs know well as they just moved from their
25-year old Timberpeg into this new upgraded one this past April. |
